You may have heard about kratom (Mitragyna speciosa). Derived from a type of evergreen tree, kratom contains alkaloid compounds called mitragynine and 7-hydroxy mitragynine. People from southern Thailand and northern Malaysia already consume this plant for so long. Because, the scientific study revealed that kratom can help reduce pain, relax, prevent fatigue, and help opium addicts to stop. Usually, it comes from any red strain kratom like Red Maluku, Red Maeng da, Red Bali, Red Borneo, ect.
Kratom acts as a mild stimulant when taken in low doses. It can cause an opiate-like high when taken in high doses. FDA and DEA are currently making kratom to one of the list as a “drug of concern”
Scientific Research about kratom and pain reduction
Many national and international experts also paid attention to Kratom through published scientific journals. One is the study of experts from the University of Tanjungpura, Pontianak, which describes how kratom leaves can reduce pain or play an antinociceptive effect on Swiss male mice.
In a study conducted by Sri Luliana and colleagues, the team used a hot plate test to conduct the test. The male mice were divided into five groups, namely the normal group induced 0.5% CMC Na, the morphine group at a dose of 5.46 mg / kgBW, the kratom leaf dichloromethane fraction group at a dose of 70, 140 and 280 mg / kgBB respectively.
The team then observed changes in behavior in mice for 120 minutes. The response of mice in the form of jumping, licking, and pulling the leg backward was observed as a parameter.
“One Way ANOVA and Post Hoc LSD Test results show that the antinociceptive activity of the dichloromethane fraction at doses of 70 (51%), 140 (81%), and 280 mg / kgBB (86%) is significantly different from the normal group,” the authors wrote. abstract of their report.

The author also explains, base on phytochemical screening results, it is state that the methanol extract in kratom leaves contain secondary metabolites of the alkaloids, flacanoids, steroids/terpenoids, phenols, and saponins groups which can reduce pain. The results of this study support the results of previous studies.
